At some stage in each of our lives, we will face difficulties that appear to be insurmountable, and in many cases, we will generate solutions based on our own knowledge and or experience or from talking to trusted friends or family members. Sometimes however the issues that we face may not resolve so spontaneously and we need to find a safe space to process our thoughts, feelings and emotions and explore our situation from a different perspective.
Therapists approach issues from a variety of different modalities whether it be psychanalytical, behavioural, cognitive, humanistic or an integrative approach of some or all of the above to meet the presenting needs of the person.
One of the key benefits of talking to a psychotherapist, is that they are independent and can listen objectively without biases and can help to explore the relationships they have with themselves and with the people that matter most to them. It can for many involve looking at their past and to find what it is that is that might be blocking them from progressing or enjoying life or helping themselves to become unstuck and having a happier future, it could be about breaking behavioural patterns that may be emotionally harmful or self-destructive.
Our life decisions can at times feel like heavy burdens, especially when those who we are close to are not in agreement with our choices. Talking things through can bring clarity of thought and help us find our path whatever that might be, this can in turn build self-confidence and self-awareness and allow us to have better connection with ourselves and others.
